Since its inception, Nashville Christian Songwriters has been privileged to journey with many fantastic songwriters, helping them mature their God-given gifts and gain invaluable knowledge about the craft of writing an incredible song. 

This month we want to highlight a songwriter from our program who has truly “turned her pain into praise, and her test into a testimony,” Becky Nordquist. Becky completed our bootcamp (NCS Coaching), took part in our weekend intensive, and has now had the opportunity to take the knowledge gained through our modules straight into the writing room with Dove-Award winning artists Steve Siler and Tony Wood. 

Becky is a West Michigan-based singer-songwriter, worship leader, recording artist, author and speaker. While singing and songwriting has been on her heart for quite some time, she shares that the calling she had imagined looks so very different from the place she finds herself today. 

After experiencing five miscarriages, and a stillborn baby, she began walking the long, deep journey of grief. In the midst of her pain, she sought the Lord, trying to find Him from beneath the weight of her loss. As David reached to the Lord through the Psalms, Becky found the solace and peace of her Comforter in the midst of lament. 

Becky became a part of Nashville Christian Songwriters and continued to hone her skills to become more proficient as a songwriter, and gain confidence in working with others to create powerful songs. 

As she found new levels of healing through her songwriting, God was working behind the scenes to align her preparation with opportunity. Becky was given the incredible opportunity to meet Dove Award-winning songwriter Steve Siler, and subsequently sent him a demo that was recorded at one of the NCS weekend Intensives. 

After listening, Siler shared that he had written a song that only Becky could sing – ‘Before We Said Hello.’ This song was recorded for Siler’s Music for the Soul, a community of committed individuals who “use the power of songs and stories as a bridge to hope and healing.”

Becky and Siler then joined with Dove Award-winner Tony Wood to write a second ‘Heaven’s Playground,’ a song that gave words to a beautiful image Becky envisioned in the midst of the loss of her stillborn child, Niklas. 

In her Song Revolution Podcast interview, Becky shared that when she went into the room with Siler and Wood, the training modules from NCS came to life! A situation that could have been intimidating and foreign was actually comfortable because she felt prepared and confident in the process. 

Becky released ‘Before We Said Hello’ and an accompanying devotional on October 15, 2019. Since then, she has appeared on Christian Television Network’s popular lifestyle magazine show Bridges, has been profiled in Worship Leader Magazine, and has found herself in demand as a guest on multiple television and radio broadcasts, in print, and online media outlets, including Cornerstone TV’s flagship program Real Life, Julie & Friends on the TCT Network, and Bill Martinez Live! (syndicated in over 300 U.S. radio markets), among many others.   

Becky has described the platform and engagements she has gained through her book and singles as opportunities to be a “tear catcher,” the chance to wrap her arms around people that are hurting, and point them to Christ. She has climbed a mountain of pain, but is choosing to live from a place of hope every day. Because of her surrender to trust Him, she is able to lead others into the healing she has experienced. 

Becky, we are so proud of you and the way you have pressed onward to see Jesus’ face in new ways, and the way that you have inspired others to choose hope, to be more than conquerors, yet remain vulnerable in the process. We can’t wait to witness all of the ways God continues to shape your story, and bring beauty from ashes.
